Biology sponsors several departmental seminars and University lecture programs. These expose our students to contemporary research and professions in the biological and health sciences. Students often have the opportunity to work with the speakers in small classes and visit with them socially.

The JoAnn Miller Memorial Lecture on Ethical Issues in Medicine brings nationally known ethicists to AU to discuss current ethical issues of potential interest to students, faculty, and society. This is especially valuable to students considering health professions

The H.O. Burdick Memorial Lecture in Biology features speakers on a variety of biology-related topics.

The Sigma Xi Lecture is an annual event sponsored by the Alfred University chapter of Sigma Xi. Lecturers come from all over the US to present a lecture in their specific field. Topics for the lectures vary from year to year and range from evolutionary biology, forensic anthropology, public health and policy, tissue engineering, and everything in between

The Biology Junior Seminar and Senior Seminar allows students to present their own independent research and ARGUS projects. Additionally speakers are brought in each year to present ongoing research and to discuss career opportunities with students.
